What does it take to publish in an external publication as a JPLer? Use our checklist to determine what steps you need to take to publish successfully.

Pre-Publication Literature Research

Manuscript Preparation

  • Contact Documentation Services for editorial review
  • Request clearance using Unlimited Release System (URS) with the first draft before sending to any publisher
  • Submit paper to the publisher for peer review
  • When the paper is accepted, send the Final Accepted Version to URS to update the record and receive a final clearance number.
    • The Final Accepted Version, with its clearance number, will be programmatically uploaded to the JPL Open Repository.
