Guide to using the libary's microform machine

Powering on the microfilm reader

Turn on power with switch on the right side of unit.

Loading a film roll onto the reader

Push microfilm roll onto spindle with the film going over top of the spool.

Push the green button to open the film roller and push the leader tape toward and then past the lens until it reaches the take-up reel.

Push "LOAD/REW" button to load the film onto the take-up reel.

Adjusting the image

Use the “Image Rotation” knob to orient the image correctly on the screen

Directly above the lens, are the blue and gray dials.

Use the gray dial to focus the image on screen

The blue dial above the gray dial adjusts the zoom level.

Using the Print Guides

Before printing, make sure the printing area fits within the guidelines shown in the above figure.

Printing

The printer is below the microfilm reader on a sliding shelf.  Pull out the shelf to access the printer.

Power on the printer with the switch on the left-hand side.

 

When the printer is ready, it will display a “1”.  This indicates that one copy will be printed when the green button is pressed.  If the screen displays  “PE,” the paper tray is empty.

Press the green button to print what is shown on the screen.

1. Memory Input Key

To store one of the following functions into the memory of the Scanner, first set one of the functions on Control Panels 1 and 2 and then press this button with the head of a pen or other device. The next time the scanner is turned ON, that function will appear as a default setting until a new one is entered. (Maximum three kind of setting can be memorized.)

 

2. Lamp Illuminance Key

Use to manually adjust the Projection Lamp brightness.

When the Projection Lamp is OFF, it can be turned ON again by pressing any key.

 

3. Film Type Key

Rotates between Auto, Nega, and Posi each time the key is pressed.

Auto:

The scanner automatically determines between the film type options of negative or positive for print production.

Nega:

Select when using negative film. Dark and light values of the print will be reversed.

Posi:

Select when using positive film. Dark and light values of the print will be consistent with the image on film.

 

4. Print Mode Key

Allows you to fine tune the image quality of the print according to the original being used. Rotate between Text, Fine and Photo with every press of this key.

 

Text:

For use with text images.

Fine:

For use with lower grades of film.

Photo:

For use with photo images.

 

 5. Print Position Key

Selects the portion of the screen image to be printed.

Center: The image in the center of the screen is printed.

Left: The image on the left half of the screen is printed.

Page-by-Page*: The images on both the left and right sides of the screen are printed consecutively on 8-1/2" x 11"(A4) [ sheets of paper.

 

* Page-by-Page printing is only available when 8-1/2" x 1" (A4) [ paper is selected.

 

6. Paper Selection Key

PC mode: Select the scanning size.

PR mode: Selects the size of paper to be used for printing. When the printer's Paper Feeding Tray is loaded with 8-1/2" x 1" (A4) [ paper and the paper loaded into the Paper Cassette is 11" x 17" (A3) , pressing this key will rotate the Auto, Paper Feeding Tray and Paper Cassette options.

 

* Both the 8-1/2" x 11" (A4) G and 11" x 17"(A3) D indicators will light up when Auto is selected.

 

7. Exposure Display

Indicates the current density level of the printed image.

 

8. Exposure Mode Indicator

Auto Exposure mode is indicated when the green Auto light is on. The green Auto light turns off when the Scanner is in the Manual Exposure mode.

 

9. Exposure Mode Key

Press to select between the Auto or Manual Exposure mode.

 

10. Exposure Adjustment Keys

Use this key to adjust the image density of the image to be printed during the Auto or Manual Exposure mode. The Darker key supports darker image density and the Lighter key supports lighter image density.

 

11. Multi-Print Display

Shows the number of prints set to be made. Also displays corresponding codes in the event of a malfunction or paper misfeed. The blinking number in this display indicates a print cycle in progress.

 

12. Multi-Print Keys

Use these keys to input the desired number of prints to be made.

10:

Pressing this key increases the number of prints to be made in increments of ten (10, 20, 30 ... 90, etc.)

1:

Pressing this key increases the number of prints to be made in increments of one (1, 2, 3... 9, etc.)

* This function is only available on the PR mode.

 

13. Clear/Stop Key

Press to clear the setting on the Multi-Print Display, resetting it to "1" or to stop a multi-print cycle.

* This function is only available on the PR mode.

 

14. Start Key

Press to make a print (scan) of the image shown on the Screen.
