JPL Library Services: Overview

BEACON Express

BEACON Express is an online request system to automate document delivery and the interlibrary loan process. You can request journal articles and meeting papers; regardless of whether the JPL Library subscribes to the journal or not. You can also request to borrow books from other libraries, or request to purchase books as your "desk copies" using a project/task number.

Access your BEACON Express account by clicking the button below or visiting BEACON Express. Visit BEACON Express Guide to learn more.

Publish Papers

When preparing to publish your work, there is a lot to consider throughout the publication cycle. Check out the New Researchers Support Group Degreed Learning Plan for more resources on topics such as aligning with strategy, proposal writing, funding, managing your award, socializing your project, and more.

What does it take to publish in an external publication as a JPLer? Use our checklist to determine what steps you need to take to publish successfully.

Research Assistance

Library staff are available to provide research support at different levels, including but not limited to the following:

  • General reference questions
  • Literature searches
  • Specialized bibliographies
  • In-dept consultation

Manage Research Data

Library staff can help JPL researchers managing their research data. Beginning with identifying datasets and papers using those datasets, writing the Data Management Plan, selecting appropriate data repository, to publishing datasets on the JPL Open Repository (JOR), and properly citing the datasets.  With the 2022 White House Office of Scientific and Technology Policy mandate, that results of all federally funded research should be made available to the public as soon as possible; datasets not associate with any paper are also eligible to be included in the JPL Open Repository.

Mission/Project Support

Library staff can provide support to missions and flight project teams throughout the entire life cycle and beyond. During Pre-Phase A, Concept Studies, Library can collaborate in literature reviews, search and gather relevant papers. From Phase A through E, Library can assist in looking for specific information from reference materials, reports, and standards. Once the mission is launched, data returned and used, Library can track papers using data from the mission, and provide examples of the impacts of the missions.
