The JPL Library is starting a Book Recall Project: Sending out return notices for books that have been out for a long time.
For years, the JPL Library has followed the “Upon recall” model of checking out books; this allowed for people to keep books until someone else requested it. However, an unexpected result has been that some books have been in individual’s possession for many years, reducing the opportunity for others to use the book. This also leads to some books missing or lost, which adds to a few more steps during the off-boarding process.
The idea behind this project is to have a better accounting of JPL property and our collection. It will also make future office clean-up and offboarding more manageable. If you are working remote and have the books with you, please contact us and we can arrange to help return the books back to the Lab. If the books are still on Lab, we suggest working with your business team to return the books from your office.
Please find the time to return any JPL library books from your offices or home. However, if you still need the book, you can check it out again by simply contacting the library.
