A snap shot of JPL authored papers from the Web of Science and Compendex databases as of December 2023. Reminder: because of time-lag between publication and inclusion in databases, the numbers for the most recent year (2023) do not reflect all papers published in 2023. By comingt April, the numbers will be updated to reflect the complete year.
The top 25 journals where JPLers publish in 2023, data from Web of Science (WoS), which covers scholarly journals from ALL academic disciplines.
In 2023, JPL authors published 75 articles in "Journal of Geophysical Research: Planet", followed by "The Monthly Notice of The Royal Astronomical Society" and "Astrophysical Journal"
The above table shows the cumulative numbers of papers published by JPL researchers over more than twenty years, how about more recent years? This table below shows the 25 journals with most number of JPL authors for the most recent three years, 2021-2023. Here are a few observations from the two graphs:
--JPL authors consistently contribute to The Astrophysical Journal. Over the 20+ year period, JPL has contributed more than three thousand articles in it, for the most recent three years, JPL publishes sixty to ninety articles per year.
--Within the AGU Journal of Geophysical Research (JGR) family of titles, JPL has contributed to more than one thousand articles to JGR Atmosphere and more than four hundred articles to JGR Ocean in the 24 years cumulatively. But for the last three years 2021-2023, our authors are publishing more in JGR: Planet, with around two hundred articles in three years.
For our engineering community, many engineers show case their work at major conferences, and move on to other work. Compendex is a source database that covers the broad engineering and technology fields, containing records for meeting papers from IEEE, SPIE, AIAA, OSA, and other conferences. The first graph below shows the top 25 conferences and journals that JPL authors have contributed in 2023, and the second graph shows the cumulative results from 2000 to 2023:
