JPL Library Subject Guides highlight resources in our Library on specific topics. This guide covers resources related to JPL History, including documentaries, book, etc.

You must have a valid JPL badge to directly borrow or download any items cited on this guide.

However, if you are reading this guide and are at another organization, you may work with your organization or public library to borrow print copies from JPL via interlibrary loan. Electronic copies are not available outside of JPL.

JPL Archives

JPL Archives maintains the primary materials about JPL history. Some materials have been cleared for general public to peruse, some are only available within the JPL network, and some are only available through appointments and requests. The JPL Archives guide contains detailed information about their services and curated materials.  The following bullet points link to pages providing guidance on each of the areas:

Documentary Series

The series, JPL and the Space Age, uses rare archival footage and interviews with many of JPL’s pioneering engineers and scientists in the retelling of many of humanity’s first steps out into the cosmos.  As of 2023, there are 15 episodes, and they are on YouTube available to the general public.

Published Books

The next two tabs, Print Books and Biographies, are the books available at the JPL Library. They are available for JPL staff and interns to check out.
